Vacancies: Volunteers to work in Malawi

Are you interested in making a difference in people's life as a volunteer?

This is a unique opportunity for Malawians in Diaspora in the UK to participate in Malawi's national development with Malawian Initiative for National Development (MIND) as a volunteer for 2-6 weeks.

MIND is a British charity organisation formed in 2008 by a group of Diaspora Malawians in Scotland. The mission of the organisation is to improve the social and economic life of the most disadvantaged Malawians with the aim of mitigating poverty through the advancement of education, health and community development by building the skill base and supporting active volunteering participation of Malawians in Malawi and abroad.

With the funding of the UK Government Department for International Funding (DFID) MIND will be running the pilot project in Lilongwe between the months of September and December 2009, focusing on the first two strands identified in the needs assessment namely education and health. The volunteers will go to Malawi in two phases, in mid September and early November.

The organisation is recruiting Malawians with positive commitment and compassion to volunteering; good communication skills, enthusiasm and flexibility; ability to cope under pressure; team workers and individuals who are respectful of self and others. Above all you must have two years experience and qualifications in the fields of education; health and Motor vehicle engineering. Placements are available at KCH; TEVETA; Lilongwe Technical College; Bwaila Hospital; and College of Health Sciences.

MIND will cover the volunteer's air fare to and from Malawi; cost of transport, up keep (food and accommodation), as well as a contribution towards communication (mobile phone tariffs) costs while in Malawi; and health and travel insurance costs.
